Egyptian First International Conference in Chemistry "Chemistry for Human Needs in Developing Countries" 11-14 September 2006 Sharm El-Sheikh

1. Creation of scientific environment and strengthening links between chemists in the country .

2. Improving teaching and learning skills and professional practice in the field of chemistry .

Since the declaration of ECS in 1928, its scientific activity is long standing and demonstrated by many undertakings.

The Board of Directors of ECS is composed of 15 elected members including the President of the Board who was along the history of ECS an eminent chemistry professor or an influential chemist (see the ECS's Presidents).

1. Arrangement of scientific lectures in chemistry and scientific meetings related to the role of chemistry and chemists in development .

2. Making scientific visits to industrial centers everywhere in the country to bring chemists from different sectors together .

3. Edition of the Egyptian Journal of chemistry in which original research in different fields of chemistry could be published . The journal is regular since 1958 when the first volume in two parts appeared. Now the annual volume comprises six parts.

4. Organizing workshops, seminars and conferences on chemistry to allow chemists at universities, scientific research centers and industrial sectors presenting their research results and meanwhile discuss subjects of common interest.

1. To develop and promote Chemistry  and Chemistry Education and research in Egypt.

2. To establish close relationships among chemists and interest links with chemists and other societies national, regional and interregional worldwide.

3. To enhance public recognition of chemistry and popularize Chemistry especially among students.

4. To encourage publication of scientific periodicals information dissemination and exchange of scientific results.

5. To organize workshops, seminars and periodical conferences to implement the activities of ECS.

In the last few years, ECS is much concerned with the following priorities:

1. The progress of chemistry with special concentration on chemical education in secondary school and universities .

2. Urging newly graduated chemists to integrate in ECS to ensure the integrity of the society .

3. Publishing the Egyptian J. Chemistry that now appears bimonthly.

4. Increasing the frequency of scientific meetings, association and lecturing in different aspects of chemistry. This is planned to be at different hostels.

5. Helping chemistry researchers at scientific research centers and their colleagues in industry in tackling together problems that may arise in industrial and production centers. Professors and expertise with great abilities will help in this concern .

6. Encouraging young chemists to participate in the conferences organized by ECS at a reduced and lionizing them to attend the meetings and representing them in the Board of Directors of Egyptian Chemical Society.
